If anything is a sign of the utter failure of US foreign policy, this is it. This is akin to saying “the president orders US forces to prepare for armageddon”. Because armageddon is exactly what a coordinated nuclear confrontation would be…

Whilst it’s obviously extremely unlikely that this actually materializes, this document still attests to how close to the edge we are.

The real interesting question though, and one that seemingly never gets asked, is how we can start to walk back away from it… Maybe a good start would be if the US reconsidered insisting on global hegemony gained through “might makes right”, and actually accepted to coexist with others? Sound logical to me that the moment you refuse coexistence and instead make it your goal to destroy, impoverish or otherwise “contain” others, that will ratchet tensions up somewhat… I don’t know, just a thought…
